Garage Doors

Garage door refresh questions.

Is the brochure estimate the final price

No. The estimate builder gives you a strong starting number based on the package, door type, quantity, and weather stripping selection. The final quote is confirmed after photo review so we can account for door condition, substrate issues, access, trim condition, or anything that would affect prep time.

Will the price change after I submit photos

There should be no surprise changes. If the photos show extra prep, damage, rot, unusual access, or a mismatch between the selected package and the actual door, we explain it clearly before anything is scheduled. The photo review exists so the confirmed quote matches the real condition of the project.

Am I locked in when I submit the form

No. Submitting the form is a quote request only. Nothing is locked in until your photos are reviewed, your quote is confirmed, and you decide to move forward.

Will a painted garage door peel

A garage door refresh should not look brushed, rolled, or DIY. DCL™ uses professional prep and a spray-applied finish for a cleaner factory-style appearance. The system is planned around Ontario exterior conditions, and if rain or humidity puts the finish at risk, the job is rescheduled instead of rushed.

How long does the finish last Is there a warranty

Every package includes a tier-based workmanship warranty: Bronze 1 year, Silver 3 years, and Gold 5 years. This gives customers a clear path if a verified workmanship issue appears within the covered period. Warranty claims are handled by emailing logistics@dominioncontractingltd.ca.

What is not covered by warranty

The workmanship warranty does not cover unrelated damage, impact damage, structural movement, pre-existing substrate failure, water intrusion, failed materials underneath the coating, or customer-caused damage after completion.

What if my garage door is too damaged to refresh

If the door is in serious disrepair or is no longer a good candidate for refinishing, we will tell you honestly. We are not here to sell the wrong service just to make a sale. In those cases, we can point you toward a trusted local garage door replacement partner so you still have a clear next step.

How long does a garage door refresh take

The spray application and full prep are completed in a single day. Weather stripping installation is scheduled for the following day to allow the finish to cure properly and avoid peeling or scratching during fitting.

Do I need to be home during the job

No. The process is designed to be convenient and remote. You do not need to be home, but we do require garage door access prior to your service date. Our team will reach out through a secure channel after booking to collect access details. We never store sensitive access information in our system.

What happens if it rains or the weather is bad

All exterior work is weather-dependent. Extreme humidity can affect finish quality the same way rain can, so we will push the job rather than risk the result or void the warranty. We will contact you to reschedule at the earliest available date.

Why photos matter
Photos help us confirm the correct package, identify prep concerns early, and reduce back-and-forth before scheduling. The better the photos, the cleaner the quote process.

What if I choose the wrong package

That is exactly why we review the photos before booking. If your selected package does not match the actual condition or scope, DCL™ will recommend the better fit and explain why. You approve the final package before anything is scheduled.

Will you paint the trim around the garage door

Trim is confirmed case by case after photo review. The material, condition, separation, rot, corrosion, and access around the trim all affect whether it should be included and how it should be handled.

Does new weather stripping come with every package

No. New weather stripping is part of the Gold package path. Bronze and Silver are built around refreshing the door and reinstalling existing weather stripping where appropriate. Gold unlocks the new weather stripping options.

Can I choose any colour

Yes. Customers can choose almost any colour. If a colour choice creates a concern because of heat, exposure, material, or curb appeal, we will flag it during review before the job is finalized.

How do you protect against overspray

The surrounding areas are masked and protected before spraying. This includes controlled site prep, coverings where needed, careful masking around the door and trim, and a spray process designed to protect nearby surfaces while creating a clean finish.

What types of garage doors are the best fit

Most steel and aluminum garage doors are good candidates when the surface is in refreshable condition. Doors with severe damage, major coating failure, rot, or structural issues may be better suited for replacement.

Do you remove the garage door to spray it

No. The door is prepped, masked, and sprayed on site. The goal is to create a professional spray finish without removing the garage door from the home.

What should I do before the crew arrives

Please move vehicles away from the garage, clear stored items near the door area, and make sure our crew has the access details needed before the service date.

How soon can I book

Customers can book after photo verification and quote approval. During spring through fall, typical lead time is usually 3-5 weeks depending on route, weather, and seasonal demand.

What photos do I need to submit

Every request needs a full door photo, a full door plus house photo, and a close-up of the door condition. Silver and Gold packages also need trim photos. Gold packages need a weather stripping close-up because that selection affects the final scope.

What if my photos are not perfect

That is okay. Send the clearest photos you can in good lighting. If we need a better angle or one extra close-up, we will ask for it before confirming the quote.

Why do you need photos instead of coming out first

Photos let us review the door condition, trim, weather stripping, and access without delaying the process for a site visit. This keeps the quote process faster, cleaner, and easier for the homeowner.

What areas do you service

This garage door refresh program is built for Southern Ontario. Availability depends on scheduling routes, project volume, and crew capacity in your area. If your location is outside our active route, we will let you know during review and help point you in the right direction where possible.

Can this service be booked outside my local city

Yes. This is designed as a regional campaign, not just a single-city service. Submit your photos and address through the form, and we will confirm whether your area is currently available for scheduling.

Windows

Window painting questions.

Is the window calculator total final

No. The Windows calculator gives a starting estimate based on the selected window type counts. Final pricing is confirmed after photo review so we can verify access, window condition, height, surface type, and the actual number of units.

What window photos should I upload

Please upload front, left, back, and right house photos. Additional photos can be used for close-ups, damaged areas, hard-to-see windows, or second-storey details.

What is the warranty on painted vinyl windows

Unpainted vinyl windows that qualify for the proper coating system receive a 10 year workmanship warranty. Previously painted windows or unusual substrates are reviewed case by case.

What are Sunlights

Sunlights are small fixed glass frames above doors or windows. They are counted as their own window type and priced per individual sunlight.

Man Doors

Entry and service door questions.

What counts as a man door

A man door is an entry, side, rear, garage access, or service door that is separate from the overhead garage door. Final scope is confirmed by photo review.

Can you paint the frame too

Door frames and trim are reviewed separately because material, condition, caulking, corrosion, and access can change the prep process.

Do I need to remove hardware

No. We confirm hardware, weather stripping, and masking details before scheduling so the door can be prepped and sprayed cleanly.

Homeowner Questions

Things most homeowners want to know.

Do you pressure wash before painting

Yes. Proper surface prep is part of every job. Surfaces are cleaned before any coating is applied. Dirty or contaminated surfaces cause adhesion failure, so this step is non-negotiable on every project regardless of how clean the surface looks.

How many coats of paint do you apply

The number of coats depends on the surface, colour, and package. Generally a primer coat followed by one or two finish coats is the standard. Dark colours over light surfaces or light colours over dark may require additional passes, which is factored into the scope at photo review.

What kind of paint do you use

We use professional-grade coatings selected for the specific surface being refinished. Exterior work uses products rated for Ontario climate conditions including UV resistance, temperature flexibility, and moisture tolerance. We do not use builder-grade or big-box retail paint on client projects.

Can you match my existing house colour

Yes. If you have the existing colour code, brand, or a paint chip, we can match it. If you do not have the code, we can colour-match from a photo or an on-site sample where possible. This is confirmed before the job is scheduled.

Do you caulk before painting

Yes. Caulking gaps, seams, and trim joints before painting is standard prep on exterior work. Failed or missing caulking is a common reason paint peels from trim and door frames. If caulking issues are found during photo review, they will be noted in the scope before the job is confirmed.

Do you fix rot or damage before painting

Minor surface repairs can be included in scope where appropriate, but DCL™ is not a renovation or carpentry company. If significant rot, structural damage, or substrate failure is found during photo review, we will flag it clearly and let you know whether refinishing is still the right option or whether repairs need to happen first.

How long before I can touch or use the surface after painting

Touch dry is typically a few hours depending on conditions, but full cure takes longer. For garage doors and entry doors, we recommend avoiding contact, impact, or pressure washing for at least 7 days after completion. Full hardness is usually reached within 30 days for most exterior coatings.

Can you paint in cold weather

No. Most exterior coatings require a minimum temperature to apply and cure properly. DCL™ does not apply exterior coatings when temperatures are below the product threshold. The season for exterior work in Ontario is generally late spring through early fall. Indoor or sheltered work may have a longer window.

How long does the whole project take from quote to completion

From the time you submit your photos and your quote is confirmed, typical scheduling lead time is 3 to 5 weeks during peak season. The actual work is done in one visit for most projects, with weather stripping installs sometimes requiring a second short appointment the following day.

Why do you require a deposit

The deposit secures your place in the schedule. It covers the cost of materials ordered for your job, route planning, and crew allocation. Without a deposit, we cannot hold a date or commit resources to your project.

What happens if I need to cancel after paying the deposit

Deposits are non-refundable once your project has been scheduled and confirmed. If you cancel before scheduling is confirmed, a full refund is issued. See the Refund Policy for complete details on all milestone stages.

Can I pay the full amount upfront

No. DCL™ uses a milestone payment structure to protect both parties. Full upfront payment is not accepted. The 15% deposit secures scheduling, 30% is due at midpoint, and the final 40% is collected after the work is complete and you are satisfied.

Can you paint vinyl siding

Yes, with the right product. Vinyl requires a coating specifically formulated for it — standard exterior paint will not bond properly and will fail. DCL™ uses products rated for vinyl substrates where this is part of the scope. This is confirmed at photo review.

Will the painted surface look different from the rest of the house

If we are refinishing a door or trim and the rest of the house is a different colour or material, there will naturally be a difference. If the goal is a seamless match, that needs to be part of the scope. We will discuss colour, sheen, and context during quote review so you know exactly what the result will look like before we start.

Can you paint brick or stucco

Brick and stucco painting is not part of our current service program. Our focus is garage doors, entry doors, windows, and related surface details. If you need exterior masonry or full-house painting, we can point you toward the right resource.
